Near West Side Shootings Wound 3 People Since Monday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Shootings on the Near West Side have wounded three people since Monday, police said.

• At 12:36 a.m. Tuesday, a 25-year-old woman was shot near the border of the Near West Side and Garfield Park, police said. The woman was a passenger in a car driving in the 300 block of South Maplewood Avenue when a man in an alley fired shots.

The woman was hit in her back and driven to Stroger Hospital, where her condition was not available but she was listed as "stable," police said.

• At 12:24 p.m. Monday, two people were walking down the street in the 300 block of South Leavitt Street when someone fired shots, police said.

One of the victims was hit in his or her neck and taken to Rush Hospital in serious condition, police said. The other victim had his or her face grazed by a bullet and was taken to Rush Hospital in good condition.

At least one nearby school temporarily went on lockdown after the shooting.

No further information was immediately available.
