CHICAGO — Chance the Rapper celebrated his 24th birthday in Chicago style — and that means Harold's Chicken was on the menu.
In cake form, at least.
The cake for Chance's 24th birthday was decorated with the rapper's "most beloved meal in the world:" a seven-piece wing with hot sauce from Harold's and a Mistic kiwi strawberry drink, said Alliance Bakery's Tony Randall. The cake also featured French fries and the Harold's logo, which shows a man with an ax chasing a chicken.
Wicker Park's Alliance Bakery, which has been helping Chance raise money for CPS by selling Chance-themed cookies, spent weeks creating the cake's design with Chance's assistant.
The chicken and fries, while extremely realistic, are actually made out of fondant, the edible paste that's the magic behind many cake details.
"The inside was vanilla. So that was not real chicken," Randall said, laughing. "The cake is an excellent example of what we can do given enough time.
"We ordered Harold's a few times as inspiration to have some actual chicken in front of us."
The cake was decorated by Adam Moro, who spent at least six hours on it, Randall said.
The rapper has proven himself a big fan of Harold's in the past:

Alliance Bakery has been helping Chance raise money for CPS by selling thousands of Chance-themed cookies. More of the cookies should be available this weekend, Randall said.
Chance, a Chatham native, turned his own birthday party into a charity fundraiser, allowing anyone to buy tickets to the Sunday event. The proceeds from the party went to his charity, SocialWorks, which he created to help Chicago Public Schools.
