Throwback Thursday: What Logan Square Looked Like Before The Kennedy

By Mina Bloom | April 13, 2017 5:23am | Updated on April 13, 2017 8:13am

LOGAN SQUARE — For #Throwback Thursday, check out what Logan Square looked like before the Kennedy Expy. was built.

The old photo circa 1947 shows the intersection of Logan Boulevard and Western Avenue looking west. It was taken about a decade before the construction of the Kennedy.

Here's what Logan Square Preservation has to say about the photo:

In the post-war era the multitude of metal posts supporting the train bridge were a source of constant complaint. A little over a decade after this image was taken the expressway was constructed on the other side of the bridge.

While the support posts have since been removed, the intersection isn’t known as one of the city’s best. The multitude of users, pedestrians and cyclists as well as drivers, have resulted in at least one fatality in recent years.

DNAinfo is partnering with Logan Square Preservation on a "Throwback Thursday" post each week. All photos are the property of Logan Square Preservation unless otherwise indicated.
