CHICAGO — Hales Franciscan High School is expected to reopen in September.

The school at 4930 S. Cottage Grove Ave. will focus on science, technology, engineering and math, and it's expected to have a freshman class of 50 students, according to the school's alumni association.

Hales Franciscan closed for the 2016-17 school year due to funding shortfalls.

The Hales Franciscan Alumni Association has recruited students during that time, but the school is accepting applications from those who'd like to go there for their freshman year in fall 2017. Information about how to apply is available online.

The school was historically for boys, but it started accepting girls in 2013.
