UPTOWN — Sheridan Road is about to get an infusion of Korean barbecue.

At 5 p.m. Friday, Sol's on Sheridan will open at 4715 N. Sheridan Road, the former home of Inspiration Kitchens, said Alex Wirtz, who's partnering with Sol Yu on the venture.

The first week will serve as a soft opening for the Korean barbecue spot and a grand opening will take place later this month, he said.

It will be open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays and closed Mondays, he said.

Sol, the sole owner, is originally from South Korea, where her family has been in the restaurant business for two decades. About four years ago, she opened Sol's On The Square in Wisconsin, which she sold before moving to Chicago, Wirtz said.

While the Wisconsin venture was a traditional "sit-down" restaurant, "this will be a little different" with more takeout items and "quick sit-down" items. The new menu is "minimized," he said.

The menu will feature traditional Korean barbecue meats with rice or vegetables, vegetarian and meat-filled Gimbap, some noodle dishes and tteokbokki, stir-fried rice cakes, he said.

"Every thing [on the menu] is pretty much homemade," Wirtz said.
