IRVING PARK — The weekend forecast calls for temperatures in the 60s and 70s, which is perfect weather for ice — Italian ice.
Thanks to the anticipated warm-up, Miko's Italian Ice has bumped its spring opening from April 15 to Saturday.
All three Miko's locations — Logan Square, 2236 N. Sacramento Ave., Bucktown, 1846 N. Damen Ave., and the new Irving Park shop, 4125 N. Kimball Ave. — will be scooping ice this season, Miko's 20th.
Owner Zach Roombos said his team has been busy prepping flavors — made from real fruit, sugar and water — in advance of Saturday.
"We'll definitely have some of people's favorites, including lemon (the most popular), coconut, mango, strawberry, banana chocolate chip, and passion fruit," Roombos said.
As the weather gets nicer, Miko's will introduce additional flavors, including horchata, which customers suggested in a poll last year.
"It's being tweaked and I hope to have it available this summer," said Roombos.
The Irving Park shop, announced in January 2016, will make its debut after a series of delays.
"I'm looking forward to meeting all the neighbors," Roombos said.
