HYDE PARK — Comcast has signed on to open a retail location in Vue53 later this year.

The company announced Thursday it would join Target in the new development and open a 5,400-square-foot store at 1322 E. 53rd St.

“The new store will give our employees the ability to demonstrate our latest products and services and educate visitors about how to use their range of features,” said John Crowley, Comcast’s greater Chicago region senior vice president, in the announcement.  “In addition, the store has comfortable seating areas that allow visitors to settle in and experience Xfinity products and services as though they’re in their own homes.”

The location will also offer a place for people to pay their bills and pick-up or return equipment.

“One of our primary goals in developing Vue53 was to give Hyde Park and Kenwood residents access to more goods and services right in their own neighborhood," said James Hanson, a principal of Avison Young, which developed the building. "The addition of the Xfinity store is right in line with our goal.”

The store is expected to hire 15 full- and part-time employees.

The company has not yet determined whether it will make any concerted effort to hire within the community.

“Typically, we find the employees come from the area around the store,” said Jack Segal, a spokesman for Comcast.

He said the store is expected to open in the fall.

The hours are expected to be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
