WICKER PARK — A cafe serving coffee, fresh fruit smoothies and milk-based teas along with grab-and-go food items is planning to open by this summer in a former clothing store just north of the Milwaukee and Ashland avenues intersection, its owner said.

Yothin "Joe" Yiamyothin, owner of Hot Shots Cafe at 1242 N. Milwaukee Ave., said on Monday that the 35-seat cafe aims to open in late May.

Yiamyothin, an investor in the Nori Sushi restaurant chain, said he selected the storefront because of its proximity to the CTA Blue Line Division L stop around the corner.

"I like this spot, it's a good location," Yiamyothin said. He added, "We will be hiring soon for baristas."

The cafe will also have have Wi-Fi for guests that want to stay awhile.

Espresso and drip coffee will be available, but no coffee roaster has been determined yet, Yiamyothin said.

Noah O'Neil, the building's real estate agent, said the former tenant, a wholesale women's apparel shop, opened several years ago and closed at the end of January.
