KENWOOD — Binny’s Beverage Depot has opened its new and enlarged Kenwood store as the Hyde Park location is closed.

The new 11,000-square-foot store at 1320 E. 47th St., nearly four times as big as the former Binny’s Express at 1531 E. 53rd St., opened quietly Friday before a grand opening celebration scheduled for Saturday that will feature a free Champagne-tasting.

Greg Vesch, a spokesman for Binny’s, said things are going well at the store so far.

The new store brings longtime employees from the Hyde Park location and dramatically increases the selection of beer and wine they can recommend.

People will get a chance to taste the new wines available at a 1 p.m. April 22 wine-tasting.

The free champagne will flow from 1-4 p.m. Saturday. Early visitors will get a free T-shirt and other complimentary items.

The new location also has expanded hours. The store will now be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

The old storefront in the Hyde Park Bank building remains empty for the moment. Chris Bertucci of AEGIS Office Buildings said he is working on finding a new tenant for the space.

“There has been huge interest in it,” Bertucci said.

He said he also continues to look for a tenant for the former Supreme Jewelers location on the building’s 53rd Street side.
