Retro-Focused Candy Shop From A Wicker Park Original Opens On Division St.

WICKER PARK —  Craving a candy cigarette, Sugar Daddy pop or perhaps some Pez?

Durango, Colo.-based chain Fuzziwig's Candy Factory has brought its retro-focused and bulk candies and lunch boxes to 2105 W. Division St., just west of Wicker Park's Division Street and Damen Avenue intersection.

Franchisee Karla Baker grew up in Wicker Park and attended the Hans Christian Andersen school, now called LaSalle II Magnet, at 1148 N. Honore St. — a few blocks away from her Fuzziwig's outpost, which opened Monday.

Baker previously operated a Fuzziwig's in Lakeview for about five years before moving the store to Division Street.

"There were a lot of big box stores coming in and the rents were going up [in Lakeview]. I liked Division Street and it felt like home," Baker said.

Baker's love for candy, specifically the sweets she grew up enjoying as a kid, inspired her to become a candy store owner.

"We are about nostalgic candy, stuff you can't get everywhere. Everything comes back around at some point," Baker said.

In addition to candy, the store sells an array of vintage-inspired lunch boxes —  Elvis Presley, "Friday the 13" and Grateful Dead, to name a few — and for $24.95 the boxes can be stuffed with candy for a gift, Baker said. Sold without candy, the empty lunch boxes start at $14.99.

Fuzzywig's Candy Factory has joined two other sweet shops in close proximity: Candyality, which opened in November at 2046 W. Division St., and Mr. Kite's Chocolate, which opened in November 2014.
