WRIGLEYVILLE — Police have connected a series of early morning burglaries in Wrigleyville, most of which took place within a single block.

Four incidents were reported in the 1000 block of West Newport Avenue on July 23, Aug. 27, Feb. 18 and Saturday. A fifth connected burglary took place around 5:23 a.m. Oct. 24 in the 3000 block of North Kenmore Avenue, police said.

In each case, the burglar entered the home of sleeping victims between 2 a.m. and 5:35 a.m., police said. When confronted, the offender fled with property from the home.

In one case, the burglar entered the bed of a sleeping victim and touched her, running away when she awoke, police said.

Victims described the offender as a white man in his 20s, who is 5-feet-10 and 150 pounds. At various times, he was wearing a black hoodie or black T-shirt, light blue jeans or black pants.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.

The cases are similar to that of another burglary that took place Feb. 5 in Gold Coast. In the early morning, a man broke into a woman's apartment through an unlocked door and took her credit cards and cash as she slept.

More recently in Lakeview, a woman was raped and robbed at gunpoint shortly after midnight Tuesday in the 1200 block of West Barry Avenue.
