LITTLE VILLAGE — Reversing earlier plans, some Pete's Fresh Market stores in Chicago will close Thursday as part of "A Day Without Immigrants."
Pete's Fresh Markets will close five locations Thursday: 2526 W. Cermak Rd.; 5724 S. Kedzie Ave.; 4700 S. Kedzie Ave.; 4343 S. Pulaski Rd.; 5838 S. Pulaski Rd.
Earlier Wednesday, the grocery stores said it did not plan to close, but disputed rumors that employees would be disciplined if they didn't show up for work on Thursday.
"The information circulating regarding tomorrow’s 'disciplinary actions' is not accurate," owners wrote on Facebook. "We support the Latino community for more than 1 day; we have supported the Latino community for the past 45 years!"
Before Pete's announced plans to close, Pete's wrote: "While we are empathetic to this heightened political climate, we need to remain true to our core values and our ultimate goal of providing fresh food to our customers."
"A Day Without Immigrants" actions are also planned in cities including Philadelphia, Washington, Boston and Austin, Texas, according to the Associated Press.
