WEST LOOP — The namesake restaurant group that owns iconic Rush Street steakhouse Gibsons plans to open a steakhouse and bar in the West Loop this year.

Gibsons Restaurant Group will open a modern steakhouse "with authentic Italian influences" in the new River Point building, located just west of the Chicago River at 444 W. Lake St. this fall, a Gibsons representative said. The restaurant's name has not yet been announced.

The steakhouse's menu, developed by Chef John Coletta, a Gibsons partner, will feature a variety of seafood, shellfish, vegetables, pastas, risottos, and world-class selections of beef, including Gibsons USDA Prime Angus, Australian grass-fed beef, Italian Piemontese and Japanese Kobe.

The tri-level restaurant and bar will have outdoor dining and a retractable roof on the top floor overlooking the Chicago River and the city's skyline.

The Lake Street steakhouse will be the restaurant group's first downtown Chicago restaurant since 2005.
