LOGAN SQUARE — Out with high-end, cold-pressed juice, in with exotic coffee.
Limitless Coffee & Tea has taken over the Owen + Alchemy space, which closed this week, and opened its first pop-up coffee shop there.
It's the first brick-and-mortar shop for Limitless, which operates a roastery in Fulton Market. The folks behind Limitless are using the shop as a way to test out exotic drinks like a mushroom latte, which is made with mushroom powder, agave, almond milk and mct. oil.
"This is for trying some crazy stuff," said Gina Calamia, who is taking the lead on the menu as the company's culinary operations manager.
Other drinks like bottled cold brew and matcha green tea are also on the menu. The focus will be on drinks, though Calamia said they hope to bring in some light pastries and snacks at some point.
The owner of Limitless, Matt Matros, who also founded Protein Bar, is friends with Anne Owen, the owner of Owen + Alchemy, which is why the transition happened so quickly.
Calamia said the Limitless team is expecting to stay in the space for at least six months, but the food blog Eater, which was first to report the news, quoted Matros as saying it could remain for a year.
Owen said she closed the flagship juice bar, which sold everything from cold-pressed juice to herbal vials, to focus on wholesale business.
"It’s our hope that in the future, a more broad audience will have access to the planty concoctions that we’ve been mixing up for the past two years," she wrote in a message to customers.
Owen had announced plans to open additional locations in the West Loop, West Town and Uptown, but she told DNAinfo Wednesday that those plans have come to a halt.
