WEST RIDGE — On what many consider to be the unluckiest day of the year, fortune favored at least one 7-Eleven shopper who won $700,000 by playing the lottery on Friday the 13th.

The winning ticket was sold at the convenience store at 6001 N. Western Ave. — the corner of Peterson and Western in West Ridge — earning the store a $7,000 bonus (or 1 percent of the total prize) for selling the "Lucky Day Lotto" slip.

All five numbers matched those pulled during the midday drawing, officials said.

They urged the winner to sign the back of the ticket and tuck it away in "a safe place" until she or he can get to one of five lottery centers in Illinois, which must be done within the next year in order to redeem the prize.

Other winners have also emerged from the West Ridge neighborhood in recent months.

On Nov. 30, a ticket worth $350,000 was sold at the 7-Eleven at 2741 W. Touhy Ave. — the corner of Touhy and California.

On Nov. 12 another lucky North Side gas station shopper hit the jackpot — that time a whopping $3.25 million in Lotto winnings. That winning ticket was sold at the BP gas station at 1841 W. Devon Ave.
