HYDE PARK — Nando’s Peri-Peri will open Jan. 14 in Hyde Park, the restaurant announced Wednesday.

The grilled chicken restaurant, 1447 E. 53rd St, will donate all of its sales on its first day to Kenwood Academy.

The restaurant said in a statement that it wanted to help fund college visits for students at Kenwood, 5015 S. Blackstone Ave.

“Nearly nine out of every 10 Kenwood Academy graduates continue on to a four-year institution, and we are proud to help support this outstanding tradition," Burton Heiss, CEO of Nando's Peri-Peri, said in a statement. “It’s all about being good neighbors, and Nando's looks forward to becoming an integral part of the South Side.”

Nando’s will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Jan. 14.

The South African chicken restaurant has six locations in Chicago, most recently opening restaurants in Streeterville and the South Loop, and has more than 1,000 outlets in 30 countries.

The chain specializes in chicken prepared in a mix of South African, Portuguese and Mozambican styles using piri-piri sauces made with hot peppers.
