Income Tax, Edgewater's First Wine Bar And Restaurant, Now Open And Serving

 The new wine and food concept known as Income Tax is expected to open at 5959 North Broadway by the end of the year, owners said.

EDGEWATER — The trio behind Income Tax wine bar and restaurant on Broadway celebrated its long-awaited opening with local officials during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.

The first of its kind in Edgewater, Income Tax, 5959 N. Broadway, is headed by Nelson Fitch and Collin Moody, and has chef Ryan Henderson at the kitchen's helm. It opens to the public at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Its single-page menu boast snacks, small plates, shareables and entrees, and are divided by region — Spain, France, Italy and Germany — with a wine list to match. 

Specials include flammenkuchen, a German dish baked with white cheese, bacon and charred and pickled onions, as well as pasta Chitarra with lamb meatballs and back forest duck with red cabbage spaetzle.

Its drink list offers 15 by-the-glass options and 70 bottle selections, as well as a range of brandies and cocktails. 

On tap, Income Tax serves Dove Tail, Metropolitan, EZ Orchards and Whiner.

Ald. Harry Osterman (48th), said he hoped the new neighborhood spot would be "another brick of the success of Broadway," a main commercial strip in Edgewater officials have been working to develop. 

Fitch and wife Veronica Roth, author of the "Divergent" series, formerly lived in Edgewater.
