ANDERSONVILLE — Bar Roma, Andersonville's new Italian restaurant specializing in meatballs and Roman cuisine, could open as early as Saturday, reports Eater Chicago.
The restaurant, at 5101 N. Clark St., is still waiting on its liquor license. But Julia Zhu, the proprietor of the space, told Eater she hopes the restaurant will be accepting reservations on Open Table by Monday.
Zhu, who also runs Oysy Sushi, partnered with Howard Davis, of Gioco in the South Loop, to bring the restaurant — styled after The Meatball Shop in New York City and "the neighborhood restaurants of Rome" — to Clark Street in Andersonville.
The menu for Bar Roma is available here. Fred Ramos, formerly of Gioco and Angelina Ristorante, will serve as executive chef.
"Ramos brings extensive knowledge of Italian cuisine and will present classic Roman dishes," restaurant management said in a press release. "Bar Roma's open kitchen with cured meat and cheese slicing station will set the stage for an entertaining and lively dining experience."
Bar Roma will have seating for 120.
Its predecessor, Spanish tapas joint Tapas Las Ramblas, closed in early 2013 with few details from co-owner Michael Moore and has remained vacant since.
