WEST LOOP — The owners of Kaiser Tiger in the West Loop have once again given their beer garden a winter makeover.

The sausage and beer bar, located at 1415 W. Randolph St., will officially open their ice curling rinks for the winter season Friday.

The bar offers ice curling Monday - Thursday 3-10 p.m., Friday - Saturday Noon-11 p.m. and Sunday Noon-10 p.m. according Kaiser Tiger co-owner Chris Latchford. Lane rental for up to eight players (four per team) is $40 for 30 minutes of play.

The courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Large parties can potentially reserve a court by e-mailing Latchford at events@kaisertiger.com.

Curling rinks are open daily as weather permits. The temperature will need to be below 45 degrees for at least 24 hours for the rinks to open, Latchford said.

During the winter months, Kaiser Tiger serves hot whiskey in the beer garden and lights outdoor fire pits to warm enthusiastic curlers, too.

Now in its third season, the plan to transform the bar's beer garden was born after a particularly brutal winter in 2013-14, Latchford said in 2015.

"So we thought, if you can't beat the winter, then join it," he said. "What a better way to spend time outside than to have a bonspiel at the curling rinks?"

Kaiser Tiger opened in May 2014. The bar offers bocce ball in the beer garden during the summer months.
