CHICAGO — A shootout on the Eisenhower Expy. forced investigators to shut down its busy inbound lanes for hours Monday.
The lanes were reopened by 1:30 p.m., but delays stretched deep into the suburbs, according to WBBM-AM.
The shootout happened around 11 a.m. on I-290 eastbound between Kedzie Avenue and Sacramento Boulevard, and investigators pored over the road looking for evidence after the eastbound lanes were shut down near Independence Boulevard.
ISP said occupants of a white car and a black car exchanged gunfire while traveling eastbound on I-290 near Kedzie Avenue. The white car then crashed into another vehicle and exited I-290 at Sacramento Boulevard, ISP said.
The black car continued eastbound on I-290, ISP said. There were no injuries from the shooting or the crash, and investigators recovered shell casings from the scene.
No further information was immediately available.
The shooting comes after a violent month on the Eisenhower. On Nov. 4, troopers responded to a shooting on I-290 eastbound on the exit ramp to Western Avenue. On November 15, another person was wounded in a shooting on I-290 near Morgan Street.
Anyone with information is asked to call the ISP at 847-294-4400.
