Mirabella To Host Grand Opening Thursday, Sample The Italian Cuisine

IRVING PARK — The transformation of Mirabell into Mirabella is complete.

Chef/owner Arturo Aucaquizhpi, a 20-year veteran of Gene & Georgetti steakhouse, is ready to unveil his take on Italian cuisine with Mirabella's grand opening at 4 p.m. Thursday, 3454 W. Addison St.

Diners will be treated to a free glass of wine, passed appetizers and tastings of steak, chicken, salad, pasta and gelato dishes.

Given Aucaquizhpi's resume, it's no surprise that Mirabella's menu leans toward classic steakhouse fare: New York strip, veal chop, chicken vesuvio and shrimp de jonghe. But there are also more than a dozen pastas to choose from, with gluten-free and whole wheat options available.

Mirabella takes over a location that for the better part of four decades was home to Mirabell, one of Chicago's best known German dining destinations.

Owned by the Heil family since 1977, Mirabell closed in July after a year-long "farewell tour," including briefly reopening as M Pub.
