UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — Just ahead of the holiday shopping rush, Amazon is debuting its newest prime pickup facility on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus.

Amazon Prime members will now be able to get free same-day pickup on millions of items when shipped to Amazon@UIC, a fully staffed pickup location in the Student Center East building on the UIC campus, a spokesperson said this week.

The UIC@Amazon location opened its doors last week, according to a UIC press release. The e-commerce company will celebrate the facility's opening with a press conference Thursday morning.

The new 2,300-square-foot facility offers a secure location to pick up packages and process free returns on Amazon orders. Amazon Prime and Prime Student members will have access to free same-day pickup at the location for orders placed by noon and free one-day pickup for orders placed by 10 p.m.

Amazon Prime subscribers can register the UIC pickup location as a mailing option by registering online.

Prime Student membership is $49 per year and Prime membership is $99 per year.

The space at UIC is part of the first wave of locations at campuses in Illinois. On Oct. 19, Amazon debuted Amazon@Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

Amazon@UIC is located on the second floor of the Student Center East building, 750 S. Halsted St. The facility is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday and Noon-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
