ROSCOE VILLAGE — Members of the Lane Tech College Prep community are raising funds to help defray the funeral costs of murdered alum Aaron Bennett, 19.

Bennett, who lived in East Garfield Park, was shot in the head during an argument Oct. 29.

A GoFundMe page has raised $3,445 of its $5,000 goal.

The teen had been a member of Lane Tech's track team and was a drummer in the marching band.

School counselor Amanda Andros, who set up the GoFundMe page, remembered her former student's "infectious smile," "determination and humor" and said he was "always kind."

Nearly 80 Lane Tech alumni, current students, staff and members of the broader community have contributed to the fundraiser (click here).

"He was a friendly face in the halls and he was one of the cool kids in band, he was light-hearted," wrote a member of the Lane Tech marching band, which played at Bennett's funeral over the weekend.
