MEDICAL DISTRICT — After fielding noise complaints, a West Side alderman will host an open house tour and meeting on helicopter traffic in and around the Medical District.

The open house tour will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Vertiport Chicago, 1339 S. Wood St., and a meeting on noise complaints starts at 7:15 p.m. Monday, according to Ald Jason Ervin's 28th Ward office.

Over the last several months, Ervin has fielded noise complaints related to the Vertiport Chicago helicopter traffic from neighbors living in Tri-Taylor and University Village. U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, State Senator Patricia Van Pelt, State Rep. Art Turner II, and officials representing the Illinois Medical District and Federal Aviation Administration are expected to answer questions as the seek a solution to the challenging noise issue, Ervin said.

Neighbors who wish to attend the Monday night meeting can register online.

Vertiport Chicago, a 10-acre private heliport, opened in April 2015 on land leased from the Illinois Medical District.

In Bridgeport, officials are also fielding complaints related to helicopter noise from Chicago Helicopter Experience, which opened at 2420 S. Halsted St. last year.
