UPTOWN — The owners of Eats and Sweets are launching a satellite (restaurant) into their home neighborhood next February.

Husband-and-wife duo Tim Benedict and Margaret McCall are planning to open Eats and Sweets Satellite, a space-themed commuter version of their cafe in Ravenswood, at 942 W. Montrose Ave.

"It's a retro space theme — 'Star Trek,' David Bowie, down that road. And we're commissioning some custom art and murals," Benedict said Thursday.

While the flagship location has a full kitchen offering a full breakfast and lunch menu, the Uptown location will serve as "commuter location focusing more on coffee and pastries," he said.

The Ravenswood location will bake the items and they'll be delivered by bike each morning, Benedict said.

It will offer a "pretty straightforward traditional" cafe menu with a full line of espresso drinks. It will brew Two Brothers Coffee and offer its cold brew, he said.

The cafe will offer free WiFi and have seating for about 12 people, he said.

The couple moved to Uptown from Detroit about six years ago because they "really loved the diversity" and dreamt of opening a restaurant somewhere in the neighborhood, Benedict said.

In June 2015, Benedict and McCall acquired ownership of Eats and Sweets from the Lacey family. The Lacey family opened the restaurant at 1636 W. Montrose Ave. in June 2014.

The couple made a couple subtle tweaks to the menu and introduced a few family recipes to the mix.
