Tow Truck Driver Who Smashed Into 7 Cars Charged With DUI, Police Say

COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A suburban man has been charged in the Irving Park crash that damaged seven cars Wednesday.

According to witnesses, a tow truck for Rosehill Towing and Recovery Inc. was heading the wrong way down the 3300 block of West Cuyler Avenue about 7 a.m. Wednesday when the vehicle hit a speed bump too fast.

The truck then slammed into seven cars, likely totaling five of them, which had to be towed from the scene, neighbors said. Two cars that remained on the block Wednesday evening suffered heavy front-end damage.

"You hear something hit the ground," said Sharon Costanza, who heard the crash but didn't witness it. "Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom."

The driver got out of the truck and ran down the street, according to witnesses. Several neighbors ran after the man and told police where he was.

Patrick Worley, 33, of suburban Des Plaines, now faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, police said Friday. Worley was also cited for negligent driving and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

He is next slated to appear in court November 15, police said.

Worley is listed as the president of Rosehill Towing and Recovery Inc. in state records. He listed himself as a driver and CEO for the company on Facebook. Rosehill Towing and Worley could not immediately be reached for comment.

According to court records, Worley has a pending case for driving on a revoked license. He was arrested Feb. 22, and his next court date in that case is October 18.

In 2010, Worley was convicted of causing an accident that resulted in injury or death, court records show. He has additional prior convictions for aggravated battery with a weapon (2007), possession of a firearm by a felon (2007), manufacturing and delivering marijuana (2006, 2002) and battery (2001).
