Man In Brian Urlacher Jersey Robs Dunkin' Donuts In West Loop

WEST LOOP — The Dunkin' Donuts near the CTA's Morgan "L" station was robbed at knifepoint by a man wearing a Brian Urlacher jersey Wednesday afternoon.

At about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, a man in a white Chicago Bears "54" jersey walked into the Dunkin' Donuts at 1015 W. Lake St. in a busy stretch of the West Loop, and lingered, said Faisal Merchant, the store's owner.

After other customers left the business, the man jumped behind the counter and showed a knife to the shop's employee and demanded cash.

In fear, the shop's employee handed over cash from the store's register. The robber, with the cash in hand, then fled the scene onto Lake Street, Merchant said.

No suspects are in custody, Chicago Police said Thursday. Area Central detectives are investigating the crime.

While Merchant doesn't know the man, he said he has seen him in the area before panhandling on Lake Street.

The Dunkin' Donuts location opened in January of this year.

In a statement, Roger Romanelli, executive director of the Randolph/Fulton Market Association, said that the organization has zero tolerance for criminal activity in Fulton Market.

"Everyone worked too hard to revitalize our community. We will not allow criminal activity or allow residents and businesses to live with fear," Romanelli said.
