LITTLE VILLAGE — A new frozen yogurt shop in Little Village promises to bring Mexican flair to the frozen treat.

"We'll have flavors like churro, flan and Chocolate Abuelita," said Eve Rodriguez Montoya, founder of the newly opened Yogolandia Yogurt and Botana Bar at 3253 W. 26th St. "It's frozen yogurt with a Mexican twist."

If Yogolandia sounds familiar, it should. The colorful yogurt shop is nestled inside Dulcelandia, Montoya's parents' famed candy store, which has been a Little Village staple for nearly 20 years.

Moving forward, Dulcelandia guests will be able to browse imported Mexican candy while enjoying frozen yogurt or botanas, sweet or savory snacks people can mix using chips, candy and fresh fruit.

Yogurt flavors will include classics like plain and strawberry. Cucumber, arroz con leche, piña colada and churro are a nod to Little Village's largely Mexican-American population, Montoya said.

The entrepreneur gets her yogurt from Honey Hill Farms in Arkansas, and creates new flavors in-house. Toppings will range from fruit and nuts to chile powder and Mexican candy.

"There'll be marzipan right next to Sour Patch Kids," Montoya said. "It's really a bringing together of two cultures: the Latino influence on the sweet flavors and the American candy we all grew up with."

Montoya and brother Marco Rodriguez plan to open two additional Yogolandia shops inside the Dulcelandia locations in Brighton Park and Logan Square sometime next year.

For now, fans can create treats starting at 45 cents per ounce in the Little Village location, which hosted grand-opening festivities Thursday night.
