HYDE PARK — A Hyde Park potter is opening her first show in the neighborhood on Saturday.

Jennefer Rossi said she’s shown her pottery in New York City and elsewhere, but her show opening on Saturday at Cornell Florist, 1645 E. 55th St., is the first opportunity for people in the neighborhood to see the pieces she makes at the Hyde Park Art Center.

“My work is very emotionally driven rather than academic, often without a clear plan or path,” Rossi said. “The making is what tells me where the piece will go.”

Rossi moved to Hyde Park to pursue her art full time after career in fashion in New York City and Paris.

“I moved here three years ago, and adore it so much,” Rossi said. “I started ceramics at Hyde Park Arts Center and have been going for the last three years.”

She said she’s still building a studio in her Hyde Park home, but it hasn’t stopped her from finding her niche in the South Side arts scene.

She said she struck up a relationship with Cornell Florist when she moved to the neighborhood and started buying plants there and found it to be the perfect place to start showing her work in the neighborhood.

Rossi said she will display more than 20 pieces at the shop through Monday.

There will be an opening reception at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the shop.
