BRIDGEPORT — Get ready for a sausage battle royale.

No, really… It's like the WrestleMania of encased meats, and it’s coming to your neighborhood.

On Oct. 9, Kimski At Maria’s will host “Sword Fight: A Sausage Battle Royale.” It’s the Korean-Polish street food counter’s way of celebrating people who love eating — and the art of making — sausage.

According to event literature, the contest will put three of Chicago’s sausage scientists — Publican Quality Meats, Haymarket Pub & Brewery and Bridgeport’s own Martinez Supermarket — in a “brat battle.”

It’s the audience that will decide the winner, tasting sausage samples and voting for a favorite.

Not into eating sausage? Don’t worry. There will be an array of fun and games at 960 W. 31st St. come the sausage battle.

There’s the Sausage Toss. It’s basically the same as a picnic balloon toss if you passed a sausage to your teammate instead. The game ends when one player drops the sausage.

Then there’s the Relish Race, a three-person, Olympics-style relay. Runners have to pass off a sausage baton along a circle-course that trails around Maria’s Packaged Goods & Community Bar. The first team to cross their sausage baton across the finish line win.

The grand finale of the day’s spectator sausage sports is a Polish sausage eating contest. The judge is Bridgeport’s “sausage queen,” Nicole Makowski, owner of Makowski Real Sausage Co.

The Chicago Stock Yard Kilty Band is set to play its signature bagpipes and drums, and beers will be flowing inside Maria's.
