WEST LOOP — Groundswell Coffee Roasters opened its second Chicago location in the West Loop this week.

The Chicago-based roaster that specializes in small batch coffee opened a new location at 1168 W. Madison St. in The Madison at Racine development Monday.

The new Madison Street coffee bar offers a traditional coffee menu including espresso-based drinks, single-origin pour-over coffee, Oji cold brew, batch-brewed coffee and an assortment of full leaf teas. The cafe also offers a selection of selection of locally-baked pastries and housemade panini.

The indie coffee shop also features a pair of Japanese Kyoto-style slow drip brewers. The drip brewers produce cold brew coffee by dripping one droplet of water a time over a bed of coffee for a period of 12-24 hours, creating a more aromatic and nuanced flavor than traditional steeped cold brew.

Founded in 2015 in Lincoln Square, Groundswell roasts coffee in small batches from regions spanning the globe, including Africa, Central America, Indonesia, Yemen and South America.

The Madison Street coffee bar features seating for 18 and two original murals by Chicago artist Brittany Bindrim. The shop is open 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

A third Groundswell coffee bar will be opening in Lincoln Square later this fall.
