RAVENSWOOD — Less than a year after introducing its style of globally inspired tacos to Albany Park, Rojo Gusano quietly added a third location in Ravenswood over the weekend.

The restaurant, at 4217 N. Ravenswood Ave., has plans to make a bigger splash on Friday, offering free tacos (limit one per person) to coincide with Mexican Independence Day.

Swing by between noon and 10 p.m. to enjoy one of chef Dudley Nieto's creations, which range from curry shrimp to Korean barbecue to butternut squash tacos.

Rojo Gusano takes over the address formerly occupied by Artango Bistro, which decamped to the heart of Lincoln Square and reopened in April as Artango Bar & Steakhouse.

Nieto also helped to develop the menu at the new Artango.

On Saturday, the chef was on hand greeting patrons, while staff handed out menus to pedestrians strolling by during the Ravenswood ArtWalk.

In addition to tacos, Rojo Gusano's specialties include guacamole and salsas, rice bowls and ceviche. The Ravenswood location is BYOB.

Before opening Rojo Gusano late last year, Nieto was best known to foodies for Adobo Grill, Mezcalina and Barbakoa.

The original Rojo Gusano debuted in December at 3838 W. Lawrence Ave., and a Belmont Cragin location followed in June, at 3131 N. Central Ave.
