LINCOLN PARK — A group of townhomes on Lakeview Avenue designed by well-known architect David Adler are now Chicago landmarks.

At a Commission on Chicago Landmarks hearing last week, the homes at 2700-2710 N. Lakeview Ave. won landmark status, protecting them from potential changes, according to Ald. Michele Smith (43rd), whose ward includes the homes.

Built in the early 20th century, the homes offer everything from curved staircases and ornate fanlight windows to fountains and columns — all in a classic European style.

According to Chicago MagazineAdler designed one of the homes for Henry Dangler, who was his classmate at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and eventually became his business partner in Chicago.

Smith thanked the Diversey Harbor Lakeview Association, the Park West Neighbors Association, Preservation Chicago and residents at 2650 N. Lakeview Ave. for their help securing the landmark designation.
