LINCOLN PARK — A stretch of historic townhomes on Lakeview Avenue designed by famous architect David Adler could become Chicago landmarks.

Built in the early 20th century, the four homes at 2700-2710 N. Lakeview Ave. are being considered for Chicago landmark status, which would protect them from potential changes, according to Ald. Michele Smith (43rd).

In a message to constituents, Smith said the city will be "making a "preliminary recommendation" to the Chicago Commission on Landmarks at a hearing at 12:45 p.m. April 7 in Room 201A of City Hall, 121 N. LaSalle St.

Smith encouraged neighbors to attend the hearing, which is open to the public.

The homes may appear nondescript to passersby due to their flat brick exterior. But look closer and you'll see ornate fanlight windows and columns that offer a taste of the classic European style you'll find inside.

According to Chicago Magazine, Adler designed one of the homes for Henry Dangler, who was his classmate at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and would become his business partner in Chicago.

Gigantic skylights, a curved staircase and a working fountain are just a few features inside Adler's homes.
