3 Dead, 9 Wounded In Citywide Shootings Since Sunday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Citywide shootings left three dead and nine wounded since Sunday, police said. 

At 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, a 17-year-old boy was standing in the 7800 block of South Cornell Avenue in South Shore when he was shot by two men, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago Police spokesman. 

The boy, who was shot in the back, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Alfaro said. 

The boy was a documented gang member, police said. 

Earlier on that day at 6:15 p.m., a 19-year-old man was found by officers in the 5200 block of South Sangamon Street in the Back of the Yards, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman. 

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Estrada said. 

The man was a documented gang member, police said.

At 5:15 p.m. Sunday, two men, 45 and 27, were unloading boxes in an alley in the 6700 block of South Green Street in Englewood when a man dressed in black opened fire, Estrada said. 

Robert Porter Jr., 45, who was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, was shot in the torso and chest was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:02 p.m. Sunday, officials said. 

The younger man, who was shot in the chest, back, and right wrist, was taken taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition, Estrada said. 

Both men are documented gang members, police said.

In non-fatal Monday shootings:

At 4:31 a.m., a 35-year-old man was at a red light in the 7900 block of South South Shore Drive in South Shore when someone in a dark-colored sedan fired shots at him, Estrada said.

At 12:55 a.m., two men, 19 and 18, were shot as they were sitting in a parked car in the 10100 block of South Princeton Avenue on the Far South Side by a man who approached them, Estrada said. 

At 12:26 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in the 5800 block of South Laflin Street in Englewood when a man exited a red sedan and fired shots, Estrada said.

In non-fatal Sunday shootings:

At 7:15 p.m., a 19-year-old man was playing basketball in the 9700 block of South Yates Boulevard in Jeffery Manor when someone on a bicycle shot him, Estrada said.

At 4:30 p.m., a 22-year-old was in the 7100 block of South State Street in Park Manor when someone walked up and shot him, Estrada said.

At 4:08 p.m., a 23-year-old man was sitting on his porch in the 7400 block of South Kenwood Avenue in Grand Crossing when someone emerged from a green car and shot him, Estrada said.

At 11:35 a.m., a 15-year-old boy was in an alley in the 5200 block of West LeMoyne Street in Austin when someone emerged from a car and shot him, Estrada said.

No one is in custody for the shootings, police said.
