COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — The man who used a stun gun on a Walgreens employee in Lincoln Square has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Daniel Lopez, 27, pleaded guilty last month to possession of a firearm and aggravated battery of a merchant following the April 16 incident at 4801 N. Lincoln Ave.

A Cook County judge has sentenced Lopez to three years in prison, court records show. According to the Illinois Department of Corrections, Lopez is expected to be paroled in October 2017.

Prosecutors said Lopez attacked the Walgreens manager after the man caught Lopez's girlfriend stealing. The manager tried to call 911, authorities said, and Lopez began "acting aggressively."

That's when he pulled out a 3,800-volt stun gun and attacked the manager, leaving burn marks on the 29-year-old man's neck, according to police and prosecutors.

Lopez initially described the attack as accidental, but pleaded guilty during a hearing last month. He had been held in lieu of $100,000 bail since April.

According to police, Lopez's girlfriend got away during the commotion. She is accused of trying to steal two sandwiches, a back brace and two wrist braces from the store at Lincoln and Western avenues.
