HYDE PARK — Cemitas Puebla is opening next week in Hyde Park and is adding a breakfast menu, a first for the restaurant.

The sandwich shop said in July it planned to take over the storefront at 1321 E. 57th St. when Packed closed in May after a short run in the neighborhood.

Michael Newman, a spokesman for the restaurant with two other locations in Fulton Market and Humboldt Park, said the restaurant’s managers have tried to hire people from the surrounding community while developing a new breakfast menu.

He said the restaurant is sticking to its French, Italian and Mexican influences for breakfast with an egg, ham and egg, chorizo and egg sandwiches and a veggie sandwich with potatoes, mushrooms, zucchini, peppers and onions. Each can also be ordered as a taco, Newman said.

“We will also be offering pancakes de camote (sweet potato pancakes) as well as Sparrow brand coffee, including horchata coffee,” Newman said.

Newman said an opening date would be announced soon.
