NEAR WEST SIDE — A 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were shot in the University Village area of the Near West Side Sunday morning, police said.

At 4:01 a.m., they were standing in the 1200 block of West Washburne Avenue when someone shot at them from the back seat of a passing car, according to a police incident report.

The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition after being shot in her stomach, police said.

The man was also taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was considered "stable" with a gunshot wound in his right leg, police said.

No one is in custody, police said.
