8 Things To Do In Uptown And Andersonville This Weekend

UPTOWN AND ANDERSONVILLE — Whether you're a craft beer fanatic looking to learn how to homebrew or ready for a day at the beach with the family, there's something for everyone to do this weekend in Uptown and Andersonville.

Here is our list of eight things to do in the neighborhoods:

Air and Water Show: The Chicago Air and Water Show is happening Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. While the official watch site is North Avenue Beach, you can also catch the sights from Montrose Beach. Here's everything you need to know for the event. 4400 N. Lake Shore Dr. Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Shop At A New Store: Thursday, art supply store Martha Mae celebrated its grand opening in the former space of Vignette Vignette, 5407 N. Clark St. Also earlier this month, Francesca's, which sells women's clothing, handbags and accessories, opened at 5301 N. Clark St.

Friends of the Bezazian Pop Up Book Sale: The Bezazian Branch of the Chicago Public Library will sell "practically free books of all types for all ages" Saturday in front of the library at 1226 W. Ainslie St. 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Bike To Albany Park: Travel with neighbors from Uptown to Albany Park World Fest Saturday. Between 10:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m., riders will meet at Uptown Bikes Pop-Up shop, 1124 W. Argyle St.. The route will follow Lawrence Avenue ending at Bikes N' Roses, 4747 N. Sawyer Ave. For more information on Albany Park World Fest, click here. The ride takes about 30 minutes and helmets are required. Suggested $5 donation at the fest. Saturday. Departure at 11:30 a.m. 1124 W. Argyle St.

You Can Brew It: Scott Pointon, librarian and award-winning craft home brewer will teach the history of homebrewing and the basics on how to do it. Saturday. 1-3 p.m. Bezazian Branch of the Chicago Public Library, 1226 W. Ainslie St.

Learn to Sun Print With Axis Lab: For the last month, Axis Lab has been working to create a dialogue between the Argyle Street community and the wider Uptown area with its eight-week summer art workshop series, Catalyze: Building a Healthy Community. This week's series, Sense of Community: Material, Space, People, is lead by artist and educator Silvia Gonzalez and focuses on sun printing. Sun prints, or cyanotypes, are created by placing objects on special paper that is then exposed to sunlight. 4-6 p.m. Saturday. Mercy Housing, 4956 N. Sheridan Road. Free.

Thrift Shop Through the 80s: Vintage Garage Chicago returns Sunday with a celebration of 1986, back when Madonna was huge and Van Halen was in. "You'll see great outfits (shoulder pads) and hear great 80s music from John Arensdorff of Audio Archaeology." The vintage flea market will also have wares across other eras with more than 100 venders. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday. 5051 N. Broadway. $5 admission.

Eat A Charlie Trotter-inspired Meal: Appelation is serving Chevre Panna Cotta as part of the third annual Charlie Trotter Day celebration, which honors the beloved chef by cooking dishes from his cookbooks. The dishes are $10 and a portion of the proceeds are donated to the Trotter Project's Pillars of Excellence Mentor Program, "which seeks to inspire, train, and provide opportunities for aspiring chefs and hospitality professionals."
