9 People Shot Dead In Chicago This Weekend, 45 Wounded

CHICAGO — Nine people were shot and killed in Chicago since Friday, and 45 others were wounded in another bloody summer weekend.

One person was killed and 17 others were wounded on Sunday, including a 6-year-old girl shot in West Pullman and a 35-year-old pregnant woman who was critically wounded in a North Lawndale shooting early Sunday, police said.

Meanwhile, five were killed and 19 others wounded on Saturday alone. Three people were fatally shot and 10 others were wounded due to gun violence on Friday, according to police, including Army Veteran Abner Garcia.

Sunday's homicide came at 9 a.m., when a man was shot dead in Greater Grand Crossing, police said.

In non-fatal shootings:

• A 20-year-old man was shot in Pilsen at 4:56 a.m. Monday, police said.

• A 33-year-old man was wounded in a West Garfield Park shooting at 4 a.m. Monday, police said.

He was in the 50 block of North Kilbourn Avenue when he was shot in the head, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

• A 16-year-old boy was shot in Austin early Monday, police said. 

He was grazed in the leg at 1:35 a.m. in the 4900 block of West Hubbard Street, police said, and he refused medical attention.

• An 18-year-old man was shot in Austin at 1:07 a.m., police said. 

He was walking in the 300 block of North Central Avenue when he was shot in the leg. He got himself to West Suburban Hospital in good condition, police said.

• A 29-year-old man was wounded in a West Pullman shooting early Monday, police said.

He was walking to his car at 12:18 a.m. in the 12000 block of South Parnell Avenue when two men began firing at him, police said. The man was struck in his foot and was brought to Christ Hospital in good condition, police said.

• A 38-year-old man was shot in West Englewood just after midnight Monday, police said. 

He was sitting on a porch at 12:07 a.m. in the 2100 block of West 70th Place when two men approached and "exchanged gunfire" with the man, police said. He was hit in the neck and was taken to Christ in critical condition.

• A 39-year-old man was shot in North Lawndale late Sunday, police said.

He got into an argument over a parking space at 11:51 p.m. in the 4100 block of West Grenshaw Street when the man he was arguing with fired at his car. The man was hit in the leg and refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.

• An 18-year-old man was wounded in a Washington Park shooting Sunday, police said.

He was driving out of a parking lot in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue at 9:25 p.m. when a man on foot fired at him, police said. He was struck multiple times in the body and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The man is a documented gang member, according to police.

• A 29-year-old man was shot in Austin Sunday night, police said.

He was standing on the corner in the 4800 block of West Potomac Avenue at 9:13 p.m. when a dark-colored car drove by and opened fire. He was hit in the leg and was taken to West Suburban Hospital in what police are considering "stable" condition.

The man is a documented gang member, police said.

• A 21-year-old woman was shot in Tri-Taylor Sunday night, police said.

• A 22-year-old man was shot in Roseland Sunday night, police said.

He was in the 400 block of East 111th Street at 8:45 p.m. when he was struck in the arm and was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where his condition was not released but he was considered to be stable. Police said the man is being uncooperative with detectives.

• A 22-year-old man was shot in Washington Heights at Sunday afternoon, police said.

He was walking in the 1200 block of West 92nd Street at 4:40 p.m. when someone in a car fired at him, striking him in his abdomen, police said. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in what police are considering stable condition.

• A 36-year-old man was shot in Roseland Sunday afternoon.

He was in the 0-500 block of East 100th Street at 2:05 p.m. when he was shot in his leg and was taken to an area hospital in unknown condition, said police, citing preliminary information.

• Sunday's first shooting came at 6:15 a.m., when a man was shot in North Lawndale, police said.

He was in the 1500 block of South St. Louis at 6:15 a.m. when he was shot in the right leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.
