LITTLE VILLAGE — Silvestre Mejia, 30, died after being shot in Little Village last month, officials said.

At 12:45 a.m. on July 4, a 30-year-old man was shot in his head while driving in the 2300 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, according to Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man, who drove into two parked cars after he was shot, was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, Lemmon said.

He was later pronounced dead, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

He was identified as Silvestre Mejia, of the 4600 block of South Mozart Street.

The man was a documented gang member, police said.

No one is in custody for the shooting, Lemmon said.
