COOK COUNTY JAIL — Two inmates held another inmate hostage after the two took control of a housing tier at the Cook County Jail Thursday, officials said.

The situation has been resolved, the sheriff's office reported shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday night.

The two inmates used a "sharp object" to hold the other inmate and also covered the floor with soapy water, the sheriff's office said in a release. They also obscured security cameras before ripping them down completely, the sheriff's office said in a statement Thursday.

There were 16 other detainees in the tier at the time, including the one held hostage.

Some of the streets in front of the courthouse and jail were blocked off to traffic.

This is a developing story, check back for more details.
