4th Shooting In A Week On Same Austin Block Wounds 5 People, Police Say

CHICAGO — The fourth shooting in less than a week on the same Austin block left five people wounded Thursday night, police said.

At 9:27 p.m., people were standing on the sidewalk in the first block of South Leamington Avenue when someone in a gray sedan fired shots, police said.

A 23-year-old man was hit in his ankle and was taken to Stroger Hospital.

A 23-year-old woman was hit in her left foot and was taken to Stroger Hospital.

A 24-year-old man was hit in his ankle and forearm and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

A 22-year-old man had his knees grazed by bullets and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

A 20-year-old woman had her right arm grazed by a bullet. She took herself to Loretto Hospital.

Conditions for the five victims were not available, but they were listed as "stable," police said.

All of the people except for the 20-year-old woman were documented gang members, police said.

No one was in custody in the shooting.

On Saturday, four people were wounded in two shootings just an hour apart on the same block.

Just a day later, a woman was also shot on the block.
