ROGERS PARK — Clarke's Diner in Rogers Park will celebrate its grand opening Friday with free menu samples and a round of beer and wine about a month after it settled into its digs at 6431 N. Sheridan Road near Loyola University.

Dan Moon, a main investor in the Rogers Park diner, said he's expecting between 100-250 guests for the 5-7 p.m. ribbon-cutting and opening celebration.

"We're excited, the university is excited, everyone is excited," Moon said.

The menu will feature a wider range of healthy options and substitutions, Moon said, like swapping out olive oil for butter or egg whites for yolks.

Since the restaurant's June 1 soft opening, the response has been good, Moon said.

Clarke's has long been a diner favorite in Chicago, with locations in Lincoln Park, Hyde Park and formerly in Lakeview. Another location is in suburban Evanston.

When Loyola students return in the fall, the diner will reman open 24 hours a day, he added.

For now, Clarke's in Rogers Park is open from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays and until 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Next year, Moon said he plans to open Oliv Epicurean Grill, a "Chipotle of Mediterranean food" next door to Clarke's.
