ALBANY PARK — Officers will be cracking down on drunk drivers in the Albany Park Police District this weekend.

A "DUI strike force" will saturate the district from 7 p.m. Saturday-3 a.m. Sunday. Officers will be on the lookout for drunken drivers, speeders and people not wearing their seatbelts.

The Albany Park Police District is bounded by Devon, Belmont and Cicero avenues and the Chicago River.

Communities in the district include Albany Park, Avondale, Irving Park, Mayfair, North Mayfair, North Park and Ravenswood Manor.

Nearly 100 tickets were issued during a DUI strike force held last weekend in Jefferson Park, though no arrests were made for drunken driving.

According to a recent report, DUI arrests have decreased significantly in Chicago in the past decade, down from a high of 6,896 in 2005 to 3,315 in 2015.

Police and community advocates credit the decline to various reasons, including increased awareness of the issue and strict enforcement.
