FULTON MARKET — A New York real estate investor has officially closed on the Columbus Meats building on Fulton Market.
Thor Equities bought the four-story building at 942 W. Fulton Market for $5.9 million, the company confirmed Wednesday. Columbus Meats will continue to occupy the building for the next three months before the building is renovated into retail and loft offices.
The 16,000-square-foot building is next to the under-construction Ace Hotel and across the street from Google's new Chicago headquarters in the 1K Fulton building, formerly known as Fulton Market Cold Storage.
Joseph Sitt, CEO of Thor Equities, said the new building "offers the ideal opportunity for a high-end retailer or office tenant to secure prime space in this burgeoning area."
Thor Equities also owns properties at 1229 W. Randolph St., 905 W. Fulton Market and 230 N. Peoria St. in the Fulton Market area.
As other wholesale meat companies leave the red-hot Fulton Market area, Pastorelli Food Products and neighboring Bridgford Foods have also announced plans to leave the neighborhood.
