
UPTOWN AND ANDERONSONVILLE — The sweet smell of barbecued ribs will engulf the North Side this weekend as the Windy City Ribfest kicks off, but just in case you're not a fan of pork there's still plenty of activities for you to enjoy.
Here are nine things to do in Uptown and Andersonville for the Fourth of July weekend:
Check Out a New Exhibit: Everybody's Coffee will hope an opening reception for Heather Gauthier's "Flora on Fauna." The work travels through Gauthier's decade spent living in Chicago and Africa. The artwork features "giraffes in hats, elephants bearing cupcakes and cats wearing flower pots." For more information on the opening click here. Friday. 6-8 p.m. 935 W. Wilson Ave.
Fireworks for the Fourth: There are firework displays all over the city this weekend. Many people head to Montrose Beach to catch the Navy Pier display while close to home. The fireworks start around 9:30 p.m. but get there early to grab a decent spot. For more Fourth of July events, check out our guide.
Windy City Ribfest: This weekend the 8th annual Windy City Ribfest will bring live music and all the pork you can handle to Lawrence Avenue and Broadway in Uptown. For the full music lineup click here. Parking will be available in the Aragon Ballroom parking lot near the intersection of Lawrence Avenue and Winthrop Avenue for $10. Noon to 10 p.m. on July 2 and July 3. Noon to 9 p.m. on July 4.
Burlesque at Uptown Underground: Kiss Kiss Cabaret and friends will take the state at 10 p.m. Friday. General admission tickets are $25 and premium reserved tickets are $40. 10 p.m. 4713 N. Broadway.
Ice Cream With The Police: Sheridan Park Neighbors and Town Hall District Police will host an ice cream social at Broncho Billy Playlot Saturday. 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. 4437 N. Magnolia Ave.
Enjoy Some Magic At Uptown Underground: Uptown Underground's Magic Lounge is a step back-in-time to Chicago's old-school magic bars, featuring up-close illusions, bar magic, table hopping magicians and main stage acts. General admission tickets are $25, deluxe tickets are $30 and premium reserved tickets are $40. 4713 N. Broadway. 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Bobby Lewis Quintet at the Green Mill: Jazz trumpeter Bobby Lewis will bring his quintet, which features Pat Mallinger on saxophone, Jim Ryan on piano, Larry Gray on bass and Jeff Stitely on the drums, to the Green Mill for a jazz session Friday night. 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. 4802 N. Broadway. $15.

Enjoy a Taste of Ramadan: Friday, the American Islamic College will host a "Taste of Ramadan" festival featuring live music, activities for kids and a variety of food. The event is open to the public and features Ald. James Cappleman (46th) as a guest speaker. All donations will be sent to the victims of the Orlando Pulse shooting. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with music and activities. Dinner will be served at 8:30 p.m. "with the breaking of the fast." American Islamic College, 640 W. Irving Park Road. $10 suggested donation. Children under 12 are free.
