Masked Intruder Invades University Village Home, Injuring Homeowner: Police

By Stephanie Lulay | June 22, 2016 3:46pm

UNIVERSITY VILLAGE — A masked intruder who was believed to be armed attempted to rob a University Village home with the family sleeping inside last weekend, police said.

At about midnight Friday, a masked man invaded a home in the 1400 block of South Emerald Avenue while the family was sleeping, according to Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman, and another law enforcement source. The intruder broke a window to enter the home.

After the homeowner confronted the intruder, the offender forcefully held the victim down, Tannehill said. The victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene and declined further medical treatment.

After the struggle, the offender fled the scene, Tannehill said. No items were stolen from the home.

The offender is not in custody, Tannehill said Wednesday.
