University Village Shooting Kills Eric Knox, Wounds 2 Others, Police Say

CHICAGO — A shooting in University Village left one man dead and two wounded early Saturday, police said.

At 3:40 a.m., the three men were in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street when they were shot, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

A 24-year-old man was shot in his back. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Trainor said.

The man was identified as Eric D. Knox, of the 1300 block of North Keeler Avenue, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Knox was pronounced dead at 3:50 a.m. of a gunshot wound in his head in a homicide. 

A 29-year-old man was shot multiple times in his sides, hand and forearm. A 30-year-old man was shot in his hand. They were taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions were not released but they were listed as "stable," Trainor said.

No one was in custody.
