LOGAN SQUARE — A teenager has been charged in Monday night's drive-by shooting in Logan Square that left a 6-year-old girl in critical condition.

The 17-year-old was charged with driving the getaway car involved in the shooting of the girl when she was outside a house party at 8 p.m. Monday in the 2100 block of North Bingham Street, authorities said.

The teen, whose name was not released by police, is charged as a juvenile, authorities said.

He was arrested Tuesday and charged with aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm on Wednesday. Police have not released details about how he was caught.

A relative drove the girl to St. Mary's Hospital. She was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

A police spokesman said the shooter fired multiple times from the window of a vehicle. One witness said she heard as many as nine shots.

"I was inside alone, and I heard people driving up and then, boom boom boom boom!" said Ana D-J, who declined to give her full last name. "Then everyone started screaming. I went out and saw a little girl on the ground bleeding, and someone picked her up. Then I screamed too."

The shooting occurred at a "known problem house" and is believed to be gang-related, according to 1st Ward Ald. Proco Joe Moreno.

"The location where the shooting took place is a known problem house in the neighborhood. I’ve been actively working with the 14th Police District and other City agencies to address numerous issues regarding the house where this incident took place," Moreno said in a Facebook post.

"Police are recovering footage from nearby residences as well as extracting footage from a police camera installed on the block. I am in constant contact with the Chicago Police Department and will continue to provide updates as soon as information can be released publicly," Moreno said in the post.

Moreno said he is working with the Police Department to support a plan to protect residents and prevent violence in the area.
